The EU has been warned that labelling natural gas as a “green” investment would miss emissions reduction targets.
But considering the widespread use of coal, is gas an important transition fuel?
Dr Ella Gilbert says natural gas is still a fossil fuel and if we want to reach climate targets we “absolutely have to leave almost all fossil fuels remaining in the ground”. But Stanley Johnson explains why he thinks natural gas does need to be seen as having a “transitional role”.
