Qatar is one of the wealthiest countries in the world. With a population of about 2.9 million, the country’s GDP per capita is pretty high. So, when you’re extremely wealthy in an already wealthy country, you’re standing out in a multitude of ways. A guaranteed way to be a billionaire in Qatar is to be a member of the royal family, like Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, who has a net worth of over $2 billion dollars! The net worth of the royal family combined has a net worth of about $100 billion dollars, which is pretty incredible. The country is gaining worldwide attention, and celebrities are wanting to jump on board with the Qatar train. Like Gordon Ramsay has opened a restaurant in one of the hotels as well as Wolfgang Puck. The reason that Qatar is considered one of the richest countries in the world is because the GDP per capita is anywhere between $93,000-$133,000. However, not everyone who lives in Qatar is financially well off. Since migrants are rampant in Qatar, companies are taking advantage of the growth and actually bringing them in. But the migrant workers are bound to the company and have to work for them until their debt is paid. There are no labor laws, so poverty and disease are an ongoing issue in the area. Hopefully, as Qatar’s wealth continues to grow, this will be an issue that they resolve in the future and bring in more labor rights for people.
