John Kerry has said the United States took COP26 “seriously”, following the Trump administration’s refusal to attend previous climate talks.
Speaking during a news conference, he added: “I really do believe that as a result of this decision… we are in fact, closer than we have ever been before to avoiding climate chaos.”
He also said that having a commitment to “phase down coal” in the agreement set a precedent not seen before, but that Glasgow isn’t the end of the crisis.
