WHO: Malaria jab could save hundreds of thousands of lives a year

The World Health Organisation has unveiled a malaria vaccine it says could save hundreds of thousands of lives a year.

Around 500,000 people a year die from malaria, mainly children, and scientists have spent decades trying to stop the spread of the parasite.

The WHO’s Dr Pedro Alonso described the development as a “historic” public health event.
