Relentless deforestation adds to climate woes in Madagascar

Alex Crawford reports from Ambovombe in Southern Madagascar, where residents plant trees to try and save their villages from the encroaching sand dunes.

Amid the poverty, trees are routinely chopped down for fire wood, increasing soil erosion and resulting in 40% of the island’s forests being destroyed since the 1950s.
