Crime and policing minister Kit Malthouse says the government is aware of the expense the rise in energy costs will have on homes and insists the government is doing all they can to help.
The increase on the energy cap means bills will go up for about 15 million customers. The government says the increase, will protect millions of people from rising global gas prices.
A new 500 million pound fund is being set up to assist those suffering from fuel poverty this winter.
