Being the president of the United States is awesome. First off, you get a salary of $400,000 dollars, get access to Air Force One and the fleet of armored cars called “The Beasts”, and are fully protected with bodyguards… for life. Not to mention all of the other great amenities that you will receive when you move into the White House. For instance, did you know that there is a bowling alley that you can use at any time you please? What about the presidential putting course? And hey, if you are a basketball fan, the White House has you covered there too! There is a court that you can shoot hoops on– we bet it is a great place for the president to clear their mind, and get ready to get back to work running the country. But… What are the expenses of being President? Believe it or not…. There’s quite a bit that the president is responsible for, right out of their own pocket. And it’s likely things you didn’t think of! After all, did you ever consider who pays for food in The White House? What about toiletries? And here’s one that certainly will surprise you… who pays for all the president and their family’s clothes? We’ll tell ya– it ain’t provided by the US government! All that stuff and more is paid for right out of pocket! Today we look at not only the costs of living in the white house, but being president in general… Spoiler alert– it’s a lot. When the Clinton’s left the White House in 2001, they were in a reported $10.6 MILLION dollars in debt. Yikes.
